Teaching English in Taiyuan

Situated on the northern banks of the Yellow River, Taiyuan has a population of 4 million and is the capital of Shanxi Province. The city has a long history that dates back more than 2500 years and it originally served as an important military position in north central China. Taiyuan gives teachers a chance to experience an authentic China.

Due to its size, Taiyuan is one of the most livable cities in Asia. From low costs and strong public transit to western conveniences in apartments and dining, it is a place that many foreigners rave about.

Outside of work, there are many places to visit like Twin Pagoda Temple and Congshan Temple – some are even free, like the Shanxi Museum.

The city (and Shanxi province in general) is known best for its simple yet rich and hearty cuisine. From knife-cut noodles to steamed dumplings, there is no shortage of Chinese delicacies for you to enjoy.
