Teacher Qualifications at EF English First

What makes EF English First different to other English language companies is our commitment to teacher support and education. We understand that for many of our teachers, gaining qualifications and developing a sound knowledge in teaching is an important part of the job. That’s why EF offers a wide variety of sponsored courses and qualifications.

EF provides access to qualifications on everything from the foundations of teaching, such as the 120-hour TEFL certificate, up to more advanced courses such as DipTesol and IDLTM. These courses are open to EF’s teachers as part of our ongoing commitment to fostering teaching talent. Teacher qualifications at EF are recognised by employers from all around the world and will help you get a head start on your career.

TEFL Teaching Qualifications

During this course, you will watch videos of teachers teaching classes in a variety of contexts. You will view interactive presentations, listen to podcasts, read articles and take interactive quizzes to help build your knowledge. At the end of the course, you will be required to complete a lesson planning assignment applying everything you have learnt to showcase your understanding of the principles of teaching.
The 120-Hour TEFL also involves a practical teaching element where you will observe others and be observed as part of the course. This course is a perfect introduction to teaching English as a foreign language and will help you to get the most out of your classes.

TKT Teaching Qualification

The TKT (teaching knowledge test) is an internationally recognised teaching qualification accepted in over 60 countries. The purpose of the test is to assess how your teaching knowledge has developed in specific areas related to English language learning. The qualification is modular, which means that you can take as many modules as you want, and you will receive certification upon completion of each module. The test itself is multiple choice and requires some background reading. As a teacher at EF, you will be provided with full support before you sit your TKT, including the core TKT textbook and the glossary of terms.

Cert TESOL English Language Teaching Qualification

The CertTESOL is a teaching qualification and certification designed for teachers who are relatively inexperienced, or new to teaching English as a second language. The CertTESOL builds on the theoretical aspects of the TEFL qualification, but the course has a stronger practical element. This globally recognised course is ideal for anyone who is looking to build a lasting career in the language teaching industry.
Professional development, awareness and the importance of teamwork and mutual support are core themes throughout the course. EF English First offers in centre training for participants in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Shenzhen. The course itself is independently moderated by Trinity ensuring the highest quality and standards.

DipTESOL Teaching Qualification

The DipTESOL (Trinity Diploma in TESOL) is ideal for experienced teachers who want to develop their professional knowledge and expertise in the field of English language teaching. This course is highly recommended for teachers who are looking to progress into more senior positions, including management and product development.
The course requires teachers to create a teaching portfolio focusing on observation, developmental teaching practice and independent research. Each week teachers are given feedback with up to 15 peers on the course. Teachers have the opportunity to focus on specific areas of teaching which they are most engaged in (e.g. teaching young learners, business English, teacher development) and develop an understanding of current and historical developments in language learning theory and teaching methodology. Finally, there is a practical element with five observed and assessed lessons.

IDLTM Teaching Qualification

Developed by Trinity College London, the DELTM course is an internationally recognised qualification for those with a strong background in language teaching. This 6-month course includes all areas of management. From managing staff performance to managing financial performance. The DELTM prepares teachers for more senior positions in the language teaching industry.
