Here at EF Indonesia, we work hard to make sure our teachers have the best experience possible. Educating young minds is a life-affirming experience in itself, but we are constantly looking for ways to ensure teaching English in Indonesia is enjoyable for the teachers (and students) in all our classrooms. To this end, the Teacher Recruitment and Training (TRT) department sat down with long-time EF Indonesia educator Laura Renouf, to find out what makes her tick and why she chose this company to build her career.

1. What's your current position? And how long have you been working at EF?

Senior Teacher Manager, since February 2013 (5 years 4 months)

2. What do you like the most about working at EF?

The support system, I know I have plenty of people I can call on for help and advice and also you make friends for life. The actual everyday work is definitely the students – they provide you with energy and you always come out of a class laughing with them.

3. What's the first thing you do every morning before going to work? And what do you usually do on the weekend?

Before going to work I tend to check my emails and also catch up on social media and generally chill out. I tend to go out with my friends over the weekend, usually into Jakarta or if it's a long weekend go to one of the neighboring cities and find new places to eat and chill.

4. What do you find is different from working at EF compared to other places you've worked at?

EF has a fun style and is more relaxed, the academic team you work with daily is great and there is always time for banter and laughs. The training provided is thought through and management is much easier to contact and speak with.

5. What do you like the most about the work that you do?

I do a lot of admin work, which comes with the role, but the best thing about my job is without a doubt the students and seeing them grow in confidence, develop their skills and also have fun at the same time.

6. What's the biggest challenge you've encountered during your career?

My age for sure, when I first took on the STM position I was 25 and my other colleagues were all 35+ also being a female I felt I had to prove myself even more than them. I have persevered and have achieved some pretty decent career steps.
