Bored in China? (We hope not, teaching English in China should be fun!) But here's how to fix it.
Have you felt like you're in a rut? The only places you go are home to work and back again. After a while, there's a need for more - other than the same old buildings, park, and metro stops.
This is where the EF TRT teacher events come in. It is run by a few local and international teachers who organize approximately four outings a month for all teachers.
I was lucky enough to attend the beach party event to Xun Liao Wan beach near Huizhou City. We left the cloudy skies of Shenzhen to arrive under the sunny skies of our destination, the Golden Gulf Resort Hotel.
The area was your typical beach town with small stores selling water rings, beach balls and water guns. With your seafood restaurants and shops selling fresh seafood in tanks and hotel lined up along the sand.
Imagine our surprise when we arrived at the hotel and no one was allowed to swim between 11:30 am and 3 pm. The security guard told us it was because it was too hot (but I think it was because the lifeguards were not working during that time).
To pass the time, we went to one of the local restaurants to have lunch.
The food is so fresh; I'm positive they take them from the tanks in front of the restaurant. We devoured the mussels, oysters, shrimp and for the unlucky, non-seafood eaters; chicken (yes with the head), tofu, eggplant (or aubergine, for our British friends) and vegetables.
With our bellies full, we headed back to the beach for some fun in the sun!
Xun Laio Wan beach has light brown sand with tiny shells that line the coast and the smell of sea salt in the air.
It could not have been a better day. Sun tanning under the sun, the sand, the warm waters, music in the air and ice cream and a beer with good friends.
For an extra 100-150 yuan, there is also an opportunity, to get pulled by a jet ski on a banana or ride a jet ski.
Don't take my word for it; a picture is worth a thousand words.
Look in your EF inbox for the teacher events, which usually gets posted at the beginning of the month. The best part about these events are that majority of them are FREE. If there is something you want to do such as rock climbing, archery, or a foodie event, contact your local event coordinators and let them know your interests.
