Testimonial from an English Teacher in China
I've been teaching English in Chengdu for ten months. My first TEFL experience has been a great one!! Surrounded by mountains, Chendgu is an amazing place; which balances both the modern and the old, traditional China . All the entertainment you need provided by shops, bars and clubs side by side with lazy afternoons in tea houses filled with laid back people, who sit about playing 'ma jiang' most days.
With numerous oriental temples, great food (which they pride themselves on) and picturesque scenery nearby in every direction, Chengdu has a lot to offer. The money's been pretty good too, managing to travel to places like Beijing, Shanghai, Yunnan and Tibet and still living well.
What's good about EF is the variety of teaching. From teaching three-year olds to say hello, to advanced business to directors of major companies. Young children, teenagers, adults of all ages, one-to-one classes, group classes, some three hours long, some forty minutes, in school, off site at schools or businesses; my day is never boring. What I like about teaching is also how it makes me feel. When you see your students' progress, knowing you were a major influence to that - now that's good job satisfaction!
Nearing the end of my first teaching year, I have learnt so much about language, culture and people and look forward to the next step with teaching and EF. It's a perfect way to combine travel and work, building your career as you see the world.
