I've been teaching English in Bangkapi, Thailand with EF English First since February 2006. I had visited Thailand a couple of years ago and really liked the friendly Thai people and the Thai culture. I already had a TEFL certificate and I decided that I would like to try and find work teaching English in Thailand.
As a newly qualified TEFL teacher, I was not entirely sure of how companies and schools went about recruiting staff. Most employees appeared to offer excellent packages and it became increasingly difficult choosing where I should send my application. I also began to hear horror stories of TEFL teachers that had gone abroad to teach on the strength of an advertisement that they had seen on the internet, only to find that the reality was far different from what they had been lead to believe. That is why I eventually decided to send my application to EF English First in Thailand. EF English First had a good reputation and over forty years experience of placing teachers in their schools all over the world. They also offered a competitive package and a lot more security than other employers that I had considered.
I was surprised at how quick the process was once the EF English First recruitment staff had received my application. Within a few weeks I was informed that the EF English First school here in Bangkapi was interested in employing me. I spoke to the Centre Manager and the DoS and they sent me a letter of intent, which I signed and sent back. The staff were extremely helpful, offering advice on visa applications and so on.
I was soon on the plane to Thailand, confident in the fact that I had a job waiting for me when I arrived with a company that is respected through out the world for providing a high standard of education. I also had a sense of security that I do not think I would have found if I had taken a position with another employer.
I am thoroughly enjoying teaching English here in Thailand with EF English First. The job has given me the opportunity to experience the Thai culture in greater depth and I am starting to get to grips with the Thai language. I would like to thank EF English First for giving me this unique opportunity and for their support and encouragement in my first EFL teaching post.
Korp kun khrap! (Thank you)
