The managerial roles within the school
EF English First is a global network of franchise schools where each school is owned by an investor, who, along with EF, appoints a Centre Manager to manage the sales, marketing and general administration of the school. The Director of Studies manages the academic side of the operation and is the teachers' direct line manager, managing the teachers on a day-to-day basis.
The role of the Regional Support Office
Each country has a Regional Support Office, whose role is to support the EF English First franchise partner schools ensuring that the highest standards of education and management are attained and maintained. The Academic Operations Manager offers academic and managerial support to each of the Directors of Studies. They are never more than a phone call away and offer support through English First's teaching and materials resource Intranet, school visits and annual conferences for all Directors of Studies in their region.
The Director of Studies role
The Director of Studies primary role is to provide support, guidance and training for teachers; maintain excellent customer service for the students and participate in the growth and development of the school. Aside from the day-to-day running of the school and management of its staff, the Director of Studies is also in constant communication with their Academic Operations Manager from the Regional Support Office as well as their Centre Manager. Through discussion the Centre Manager and Director of Studies often come up with proposals for improvements to their programmes. All these proposals must be approved by the AOM who will assess their potential beyond a local level. The AOM will also designate certain curriculum development duties to the Director of Studies. |
